Wycliffe College is an Anglican graduate school of theology, located at the heart of the University of Toronto. It is part of the Toronto School of Theology, Canada's largest ecumenical consortium. Founded in 1877 by a group composed mainly of lay people, Wycliffe continues to emphasize mission and evangelism, and the authority of the Word of God written in Holy Scripture.

Almost from its foundation, Wycliffe has been committed to lay education. We offer a variety of programmes, and one of the most accessible is the Diploma in Lay Ministry. This is an excellent opportunity for those without a university degree to pursue a theological education, as there are no academic prerequisites.
With the conviction that all Christians are called to ministry the intention of the Diploma in Lay Ministry programme is to help prepare you to be dressed ready for service, and to encourage you in ways to keep your lamps burning. Our hope and prayer is that through this programme, lay people will develop gifts of discernment, mentoring and leadership, and deepen their commitment to carrying out the work of God's Kingdom.

This flexible programme is intended for lay people from all walks of life, seeking to be equipped with a deeper knowledge and understanding of the Christian faith. The programme attracts people from a vast array of denominational backgrounds. The benefits are substantial, not only in terms of personal growth, but also to enhance participation in parish life and beyond.
If you are interested in a programme more academic in nature than the Diploma in Lay Ministry please enquire about Wycliffe's Masters programmes. Each of these programmes requires at least a three year undergraduate degree in order to be considered for admission. We also have doctorate level programmes with a variety of academic prerequisites. In September 2000, St. Peter's became the Cobourg Campus for courses in Wycliffe's Diploma in Lay Ministry programme. The Rev. Dr. Ron Kydd, Honourary Assistant Priest at St. Peter's, is the on-site coordinator. He developed the site through discussions involving Rev. Canon Peter Walker and the Wardens of St. Peter's, as well as Wycliffe's Paula Thomas (Programme Director), and the Rev. Dr. George Summer (Principal). The Rt. Rev. Douglas Blackwell (Suffragan Bishop, Diocese of Toronto, Trent-Durham) and the Rt. Rev. Peter Mason (Bishop, Diocese of Ontario) were consulted and gave their blessing to this venture. We invite you to register in Wycliffe's programme and take courses at the Cobourg campus. For more information, contact Dr. Ronald Kydd at rkydd@tyndale.ca . Pamphlets describing the 2009/2010 Wycliffe Courses are available at the church office.

With expert lectures along the way, we will visit John Calvin’s Geneva, Ulrich Zwingli’s Zurich, and hide outs of the Anabaptists/Mennonites. Basic pastoral skills will be presented to those wishing guidance in fulfilling the ministry charge given to them at their Baptism. As unique children of God we all possess valuable strengths. One of the most important is the Spirit of God that dwells within us. We shall look at ways in which we can easily allow this Spirit to work through each of us and to serve others. Our approach will be anchored on the insights we find Jesus giving us in the Gospels. This course is designed to impart practical skills and methods for doing ministry in a healthy, rewarding manner. It will teach those who have limited experience in the field to carry out their individual ministries with skill and confidence. For those who have prior experience in individual ministry it will provide an opportunity to share insights and perhaps to gain some new skills, approaches and understandings.
Instructor: Rev. Canon David R. Saunders. For details, please see the fall course —”The Call to Christian Ministry.”
Dates: Mondays, 7:00-9:30pm on April 19, 26, May 3, 10, 17, 2010
