2016 AWARE Conference
Apr 29 - May 01
|Circle of Hope Takes a Break|
All WALK to JERUSALEM participants - and all members of the congregation - are invited to meet in the Great Hall at 10:15 am on Sunday March 20, 2016 (PALM SUNDAY) for the blessing of the Palms and a procession into the Church. We will celebrate our accomplishment of walking from Cobourg to Jerusalem. Following the service, there will be cake to celebrate our walking accomplishment. We will also celebrate St. Peter's LET'S WALK.
You can learn more about the Walk to Jerusalem by visiting its dedicated web page.
There will be a Pastoral Care Meeting on Monday, March 21, 2016 at 9:30 am in the Hutton Room. Anyone interested in visiting those at home or in residences is welcome to join us. The coffee is hot and waiting!
Pastor Jim is initiating a new program here at St. Peter's ... a Kids' Club for youth in Grades 3 to 5.
The Kids' Club will run every second Sunday beginning on Sunday, March 6, 2016 from 2:00 pm to 4:00 p.m., and will offer a variety of activities for those who attend!
Activities will include:
|-||Exploring the Bible|
and some awesome Group Projects like Movie Making and Kite-building.
The next program will be March 20th at 2:00 pm.
We also need VOLUNTEERS (including a mix of males & females) to help with this endeavour.
For more info or to volunteer, please contact Pastor Jim at the church at 905-372-3442 or by e-mail via firstname.lastname@example.org.
The Circle of Hope is not meeting at this time. If you or anyone you know is facing cancer and would benefit from support, personal prayer, or a friendly visit, please advise our Parish Nurse Karen Li or contact the Church office (905-372-3442).
Every Thursday, beginning at 5:00 pm, we host a Family BBQ/Potluck, followed by a short contemporary service.
In Spring and Summer, we meet on the south lawn of St. Peter's Church (or if raining, in the Great Hall). In Fall and Winter, we meet indoors (after all, it's cold and dark out there!) in the Great Hall or once per month up in the Auditorium.
Hamburgers and hotdogs are provided, but please bring a salad, dessert, or goodwill offering if you wish. Most importantly, bring yourself! Better still, bring a friend - bring ten friends!
The meditation is introduced with prayer and music. It ends with music and a reading, usually biblical.
Christian meditation has all the benefits of regular meditation with the added benefit of our focus on the centre of our being – Christ. It was brought back into the Christian prayer tradition by a Benedictine monk, Father John Main. Following his death, Father Laurence Freeman has led the community. It is world wide.
We meet in the chapel on Mondays from 7:30-8:30 PM and on Wednesdays from 2:00-3:00 PM. Learn more by joining us. Learn more at the links provided below. All are welcome - those who are just beginning and those who have experience.
There are two weekly opportunities during the daytime to study the Bible at St. Peter's:
10:30 AM – 11:30 AM
in the Hutton Room
Bible 365A small group began meeting in 2014 to follow Bishop Linda's challenge to Read the Bible in a Year. None of us had been frequent Bible readers but wanted to begin with others to whom this was a new area of study. Our knowledge of the Bible grew through shared insights and personal experiences. This year the group will meet to read and discuss the Book of Mark.
Our meetings have moved from Tuesdays to Wednesdays, and the start time has changed from 09:30 am to 10:30 am. All of our meetings are held in the Hutton Room.
For more information, please speak with Margot Holmes or send her an email at email@example.com.
1:30 PM – 3:30 PM
in the Sabins Room
Drawing on the GospelJoin Pastor Jim Halmarson on Wednesday afternoons (please note the change of day from Thursday) at 1:30 pm in the Sabins Room for a new Bible Study series, "Drawing on the Gospel".
At the start of Advent, 2015, Dr. Mark Hares held four study sessions on the Bible on Wednesday evenings in the Chapel that was enjoyed by many and was very instructive on how God's relationship with man, and man's relationship with God, evolved in early times.
Following a Christmas and Epiphany break, these meetings will now resume in the Chapel on Wednesdays from 7:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. The format of each session uses a Power Point presentation combined with a free-flowing discussion as a group.
The first of these new sessions will be held on Wednesday, March 09, 2016, starting at 7:00 p.m. Dr. Hares will begin with a 10-minute review of the Advent sessions, and then move onto the really exciting part of the Old Testament when the theology of the OT is laid out from which Israel's relationship with God flows and from which our own Christian faith comes.
Coffee, tea and cookies will be served, and it would be helpful to Mark and Ann Hares if you could let them know that you will be attending these meetings so that the right amount of refreshments and goodies can be prepared. Please send them an E-mail via: firstname.lastname@example.org.
On Wednesday, March 30th at 6:30 pm at St. Andrew’s Presbyterian church, the "Better Together Refugee Sponsorship" group is holding a Prayer Gathering. For more information call 905-885-2060. "Let us gather together for the purpose of being united as one in prayer."
On Saturday, April 02, 2016 from 9:30 am to 1:00 pm at the Lions Club of Cobourg Centre at 157 Elgin Street East, Cobourg. This is a free Event with free parking. There will be gift bags for the first 100 people.
Attention ladies of St. Peter's: The annual AWARE ("Anglican Women Alive, Refreshed, Enriched") Conference will be held at Elim Lodge, north of Peterborough, from April 29 to May 01, 2016. The weekend offers a guest speaker, small groups, and much more.
