Fall Education & Study Program

This fall, as part of our formation and discipleship efforts, St. Peter’s will be offering a Christian Ed program entitled, ‘Pray First’. This program will look at things like, How do you approach prayer? Do you worry you are not doing it “correctly”? Do you see it as an obligation to check off a to-do list? Do you think of it as a last resort—a kind of supernatural SOS when you need help?

In this study, we explore ways to help us spend time in conversation with God — and enjoy every minute of it. We will gain tools to bring joy back into our time with God, explore prayers in the Bible, and discover biblically grounded methods for making prayer a priority and not an afterthought. Times and dates will be shared September 10th and the program will start just prior to Thanksgiving.

Tuesday Evening Book Study on ZOOM

September 12 to October 31, 2023
7:30 p.m. to 9:00 p.m.

By Diana Butler Bass

Every year, more Canadians leave organized religion behind as people disaffiliate and the nation becomes more religiously diverse. The author argues that what appears to be a decline actually signals a major transformation in how people understand and experience God. The distant God of conventional religion has given way to a more intimate sense of the sacred that saturates the world. This shift to a God found on the horizons of nature and human community, is the heart of a spiritual revolution that surrounds us.

Grounded observes and reports a radical change in the way many people locate God and how they practice faith. In doing so, Bass invites readers to join this emerging spiritual revolution, find a revitalized faith.

Canon Walker will be joining us to help celebrate the efforts of our Restoration project and to celebrate our ministry and witness Christ’s presence here in Cobourg. Please join us as you can and all are welcome.

As we look ahead to the end of the fall, please mark your calendars to note that we will be celebrating Remembrance Sunday on the first Sunday of November, as Remembrance Day falls on a Saturday this year. Please join us as we welcome the Concert Band of Cobourg, the Garrison Band of the Royal Marines, to pause and remember those who fought for the cause of freedom.

Please tape any box or/and place pieces in a sealed bag to ensure happy shoppers! Thanks for keeping your puzzles until the sale.

Outreach and Social Justice Fall 2023 Update

A special thank you to all the amazing volunteers and leaders who help keep our dynamic and meaningful outreach programs thriving here at St. Peter’s.

We continue to offer our ‘Thursday Night Light’ community meal, and our weekly Hot Lunch program, ‘Souper-Time’ will return in the fall. If you are interested in helping to volunteer or support these programs, please contact the office and we will get you in touch with our lead volunteers.

As we continue to look forward, at the plans for the remainder of 2023, we are continuing to work with the County of Northumberland on the plans for next winter’s County Warming Room site. Last year St. Peter’s was able to host and support this program, and we are looking at doing so again for the next winter. Thank you to the parish for your willingness to partner and support this important program for our community!
