Father Edward Cachia was born on the Mediterranean island of Malta. He started his professional career as a high school teacher before pursuing his vocation to the priesthood.
He studied philosophy at Durham University in England and his Theological studies in Rome and in Ireland where he graduated with a Masters in Divinity. In 1985, Rev. Edward came to Canada. After his ordination to the priesthood he completed his post-graduate studies in spirituality at Regis Theological College in Toronto.
For over 20 years, Father Edward served the people of God as a pastor in various parishes north of Toronto. He also served as a chaplain for the Peterborough Catholic District School Board, and also served as a chaplain to the Peterborough-Lakefield Police Force.
In 2005, Father Edward put his career as a Catholic priest on the line. He publicly challenged the church’s teaching on the ordination of women to the priesthood. Father Edward strongly believes that when God calls someone to serve, God does not look at gender.
Today Father Ed is an Anglican Priest serving the people of God at St. Peter’s in Cobourg and as Priest-in-Charge at St. George’s in Grafton. He is married to Janina Lis and they live in Cobourg.

Following retirement from her first career, Sheila enrolled at the University of Toronto’s School of Theology, Wycliffe College and graduated in May, 2003. She was Ordained into the Sacred Order of Deacons in June, 2006 and began service as a Deacon at the Parish of Perrytown. She continued her work at St John the Evangelist, Port Hope, then came to St. Peter’s, Cobourg, where her particular ministry is to provide Spiritual Care to the many guests who attend our ‘Soupertime Luncheon’ from 11:30 – 12:30 every Tuesday. She also assists with services to the Landmark/Extendicare and Golden Plough retirement homes in Cobourg, and provides Spiritual Support to the Women’s Group ‘AWARE’ (Anglican Women Alive Renewed Enriched) which holds its annual conference at Elim Lodge on Pidgeon Lake the first weekend in May.
Sheila now considers herself to be “semi-retired” and likes to pursue her various hobbies: all of her grandchildren, watching the boys play hockey, knitting, quilting with her sister, and reading. Sheila also loves music and was once the Organist and Choir Director at St. Georges, Gores Landing.
