Drawing upon the Jewish prophets and the concept of lacrimae rerum — the tears of things. Rohr argues that true spiritual maturity involves embracing the inherent brokenness of reality rather than trying to fix it through control, violence, or judgmentalism. Instead of merely reacting with outrage to injustice, he urges us to let the world’s pain soften us, transforming our anger into “sacred criticism” and “active compassion”. Ultimately, Rohr challenges us to move beyond “clickbait righteousness” and, by embracing the “way of tears,” discover a “holy disorder” that allows us to see the divine, sacred, and wounded nature of all creation. |
