Shrove Tuesday, Ash Wednesday, and Lent

THE TRANSITION FROM EPIPHANY TO LENTThe current season of Epiphany will soon draw to a close, and with that, the next season ahead in the church year that is fast approaching is Lent.Lent is our season of prayer and fasting, to prepare for the Miracle of Easter, where Jesus rises from the dead.To allow ourselves a deeper journey into the meaning of Jesus’ journey, we are feasting together at our Pancake Supper on Shrove Tuesday (Feb 17, 2026) and then begin our Lenten Journey with the Imposition of Ashes at our Ash Wednesday Services (Feb 18, 2026).For those of you who have blessed palm crosses, the parish will be collecting palms leading up to Shrove Tuesday so that they can be burned to make our ashes for Ash Wednesday. Please drop your palm crosses off at the office or in the baskets at the back of the church. |
SHROVE TUESDAY
The Men’s Club invites everyone to gather for our annual Pancake Supper on February 17th at 5:00 pm. The cost is $10 per person and $5/child, all are welcome. We look forward to seeing you there! |
ASH WEDNESDAYFebruary 18, 2026 is Ash Wednesday, the day after Shrove Tuesday, and the first day of the Season of Lent.Ash Wednesday is celebrated as the beginning of Lent, a 40-day period of prayer, fasting, and repentance leading to Easter, marking the start of a Christian’s solemn journey to commemorate Jesus’ sacrifice. Believers receive ashes in the shape of a cross on their foreheads as a symbol of mortality, humility, and penitence, accompanied by the words, “Remember that you are dust, and to dust you shall return“.Two services of Holy Communion and the Imposition of Ashes will be held on Ash Wednesday, at 10:00 AM, and again at 6:30 PM.We hope that you can join us at one of these dignified and solemn services. |
