DIRECTOR OF MUSIC
Music has been a dominant feature in Roseanne’s life from an early age. Roseanne has accompanied elementary school choirs, Sunday Schools and church services in many places including Winnipeg where she grew up. During university she accompanied a women’s choir under the highly esteemed British conductor, Filmer Hubble. In Saskatoon Roseanne lead a select group of singers from her 30-voice church choir to produce weekly TV broadcasts where she was featured as a soloist. In Peterborough Roseanne set up a post-secondary music program at a Bible College with a mass choir of 500, a 60-voice choir, and 4 to 6 smaller groups that travelled in music ministry.
In Trinity United Church, Cobourg, Roseanne was employed as Minister of Music for 6 years where in addition to a 20-voice choir there were 2 children’s choirs and a youth drama group. Roseanne’s 5-year stay at St. Phillip’s Anglican Church in Markham included establishing 3 children’s music groups and leading the adult choir.
Roseanne is a member of the Toronto Diocesan Doctrine and Worship Committee and serves on the Wycliffe College board of directors.
Roseanne’s education includes a BA from the University of Manitoba; MMus in piano performance from McGill; MA in music criticism, McMaster, with a thesis in Feminist Music Criticism; PhD in musicology, York University, with a focus on linguistic analysis in selected musicological writings.
Roseanne is married to Ron, honorary assistant priest at St. Peter’s. They have four children and seven grandchildren.
Senior Choir – under the direction of Dr. Roseanne Kydd
The senior choir leads the music at the 10:30am service every Sunday. Rehearsals are held Thursday evenings from 7:00 pm to 9:00 pm in the Sheppard Auditorium. Occasionally extra rehearsals help us to prepare for the Festival Seasons of the church year. On most Sunday mornings the Senior Choir sings an anthem.
Membership in the choir is open to anyone who likes to sing. Reading music is helpful, but not essential. Rehearsals involve warm-ups and instruction for improving vocal technique. You do not have to phone ahead or audition. Arrive a few minutes early on a Thursday evening so that a music packet can be put together for you.
